StrataConnect Tracking Tag Receives MSHA Approval

March 15, 2017 - Strata Worldwide has announced that its StrataConnect Tracking Tag has received Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) permissible approval (No. 23-A170003-0). The SCT tracking tag is a multifunctional, two-way notification device that operates on all of Strata’s wireless underground networks. It enables location tracking for both personnel and assets, as well as two-way communication with surface dispatch.

The compact battery-powered units attach to hard hats or can be mounted in protective casings onto mobile machinery. Location data is automatically transmitted at preset intervals to the surface and displayed on the StrataConnect graphical user interface (GUI). Screen views can be inclusive of all personnel or equipment underground or can be allocated to individual workers or machines.

The SCT tracking tag also serves as a means for sending and receiving alert messages between underground and surface personnel. Workers underground can send distress signals to dispatch, notifying them that assistance is needed. They can also receive broadcast push-alerts from the surface in the event of an emergency.

“Using the StrataConnect Tracking Tag, mine operators have the ability to locate personnel and machinery underground at any time, in real time, and can also refer back to the history of movement and activity with time stamps,” states Chris Adkins, Product Manager for StrataConnect™. “The system is fully operational post-accident, which enables the push notifications to still be active, as well as provides continual tracking throughout the evacuation and rescue process.”
