SME to Administer Certified Mine Safety Professional Exam in August

May 25, 2018 - In August of 2018, mine safety and health professionals will once again have the opportunity to achieve a certification specifically for their profession when the Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) exam is offered by SME.

SME acquired the certification in 2016. The International Academy of Mine Safety & Health (IAMSH) was formed as part of SME’s Health & Safety Division to oversee the CMSP. Since its formation, the IAMSH has worked diligently to update the Body of Knowledge to reflect the current state of the global mining industry and to work toward third-party accreditation for the test. SME will administer the CMSP exam on Aug. 25 at SME headquarters in Englewood, CO. By moving to SME, former and future CMSP holders will realize a number of benefits that were not available to them previously, including access to networking with the entire SME membership.

“Of great importance to me, SME offers an opportunity to have constructive dialogue with mining engineers, operators, metallurgists and others regarding how mine safety can be better integrated into all aspects of the mining lifecycle and operations,” said Tom Hethmon, IAMSH Chair.
