January 7, 2019 - A miner has died after an accident early Saturday morning at the Hamilton County coal mine #1 in Illinois.

An employee with Hamilton County Coal, LLC stated that John Ditterline, an employee with S and L Industries, was found in an underground mine by coworkers at 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 Ditterline was found pinned between an air lock door and the coal rib.

Employees tried to resuscitate him on scene until an ambulance arrived on scene.

Ditterline later was pronounced dead at a hospital at 4:45 a.m.

S and L industries provides general underground contractor services at the Hamilton County mine located near Dahlgren, IL.
