West Virginia Coal Mining Institute Meeting Begins Wednesday with Coal Hall of Fame Banquet

 


 

March 19, 2019 - The Coal Hall of Fame Banquet kicks off the proceedings and an interesting range of presentations has been arranged for the 2019 Joint Spring Meeting of the West Virginia Coal Mining Institute and West Virginia Coal Association being held at the Embassy Suites, Charleston, WV on March 20-21.

 

The meeting begins on the Wednesday evening with Registration 2:00 – 6:30 pm then the Reception. This is followed by the West Virginia Coal Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony at 7:15 pm with Bill Raney, President, West Virginia Coal Association, giving the welcome address.

 

“We are excited to be honoring such distinguished individuals in our industry at the Coal Hall of Fame Banquet. We are also particularly pleased to be presenting details of the new Leer South Mine and Road Fork 52 Mine,” said Jim Dean, Institute Secretary and Director, Mining and Industrial Extension, WVU. “We have arranged a broad range of interesting presentations to appeal to a wide audience and are anticipating an excellent attendance at this meeting.”

On Thursday morning Breakfast is at 7:00 – 8:00 am followed by Technical Session I. Lunch is at noon with Technical Session II following. Both Technical Sessions comprise eight presentations including presentations by coal operators and manufacturers.  A complete listing of presentations can be found here

 

Technical Session I presentations include: West Virginia Coal Mining Institute History Project by Bill Reid, Publisher and Editor, CoalZoom.com; and General Overview of WVOMHS&T by Eugene White, Director, West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training.  

 

Some of the presentations in Technical Session Ii includes: Lab and Large-Scale Investigation of Two-Part Foam Rock Dust by Conner Brown, NIOSH; Coal Pillar Rib Rating (CPRR) Technique by Dr. Khaled Mohamed.
