November 9, 2025 - State 25-Year Mining Plan -- The framework for a 25-year strategic coal mining plan for the State of West Virginia is being coordinated by the WV Department of Commerce in conjunction with the Division of Energy.  The draft plan covers Generation; Infrastructure; Economic Development; Site Development; Legislation/Regulatory; Energy Workforce; Energy Education; Finance and Tax; Safety; Environmental; and Energy Security. We have been afforded the opportunity to have input on the design and content of this strategic plan.  Accordingly, please provide us with your thoughts and any recommendation you might have to improve the quality and substance of this draft. Although a completion date has not been set, we will be meeting with Nick Preservati over the next couple weeks to discuss this and other initiatives under Nick’s jurisdiction so any quick feedback would be appreciated. We also plan to discuss this at our December 9th meeting being planned.

WVCA Pre-legislative Workshop and Industry Briefing – The Association is planning a special Pre-legislative Workshop and Industry Briefing on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 9th in Charleston.  Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend.  With everything going on affecting our industry on the state and national level, we thought it would be productive to convene our general members for a discussion of meaningful issues and map out a path forward for the Association. In addition to developing our 2026 legislative program, we will review and discuss the State’s proposed 25-year mining plan; Governor Morrisey’s Administration and State Energy Developments; Update on Upgrading Instate Coal Plants (per the IRP Requirements and National Energy Dominance Councils’ /DOE Grant Program; EPA’s Rulemaking Agenda; and State regulatory Issues.  More information and a specific meeting location will be forthcoming.
