Ground instability issues have been historically one of the main causes of accidents and fatalities in the mining industry world-wide.
In the U.S., 30% of the fatalities in underground mining between 2000 and 2020 were caused by ground instability related issues. Risk management practices have been implemented by many countries and organizations in order to improve ground control safety performance in their operations. These approaches have been proved effective to control and prevent ground instability related issues.
In this panel discussion we welcome three international experts on ground control to discuss different practices and strategies to improve safety performance in underground mining operations. Moderators are Jeffrey Oke and Juan J. Monsalve. Panelists are William Joughin, Lindsay Moreau-Verlaan and Neil Shea.
