Call for Papers

The Penn State Miner Training Program (PSMTP) is seeking presenters and papers for a seminar to be held on June 15th, 2011 at the Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport. The purpose of the seminar, titled Improving Health and Safety: Enhancing a Culture of Prevention, is to explore and discuss ideas, concepts and practices associated with mining culture, safety culture, and establishing a mining culture of hazard prevention as a viable and realistic means to improve safety and health.  Speakers from the mining industry, government and academia who are prepared to address concepts and experiences in establishing a culture of prevention, research on culture training and education, methods of culture training, approaches to organizational cultural change, and resources for culture training, are invited to participate.

Those wishing to participate may send a summary of their paper and contact information to minertraining@eme.psu.edu .  We are also interested in hearing from vendors who are active in the area of safety culture enhancement.  We invite you to contact us for details on arranging exhibitor space. You may contact Dr. Mark C. Radomsky at mcr4@psu.edu for further information.

This seminar is funded in part with an MSHA Brookwood-Sago mine safety grant, and is an event associated with the PSMTP project titled Enhancing Emergency Prevention Performance: an Education and Training Program for Supervisors. Please visit the website www.minerstownhall.org for more information and training materials on mine emergency preparedness and emergency prevention.
