May 23, 2017 - India's coal ministry on Tuesday launched a mobile app aimed at increasing the transparency in coal dispatch.

The Saral Eindhan Vitaran Application (Seva), developed by Coal India Ltd, would lead to rationalization of coal linkages and reduction in power prices, power, coal, renewable energy and mines minister Piyush Goyal said at a news conference.

"Through this application, anybody can track how much coal has been dispatched to a power plant and how much energy has been generated by it. The people-centric mobile app would empower common man and hold the government, CIL and power producers accountable," he said.

Seva will provide a summary of the quantity of coal dispatched along with grades for the given day and month besides yearly updates. It will also provide information on rake movement, including the status of indents of rake, allotment and loading. This would help consumers in making advance logistics planning, a statement said. Consumers of Coal India can also get their grievances addressed through the app.
