Danny Knott Named to National Coal Mine Rescue Hall of Fame

 


September 18, 2017 - Madisonville (Kentucky) Community College Director of Mine Rescue Danny Knott was named to the National Coal Mine Rescue Hall of Fame during the 2017 National Mine Rescue contest held in Beaver, West Virginia recenlty. 


Danny started his mine rescue career in 1975 on the Island Creek Crescent team. He was also on Peabody's Star-Graham team and the mid-west division teams in western Kentucky. He fought mine fires in the Peabody Camp No. 2 mine in 1984 and 1985, and was on the first aid National Championship team in 1989.


Knott worked as a member and trainer for the Kentucky Department of Mines and Minerals beginning in 1990 until 2009, when he accepted the position of director of the KCTCS Kentucky Coal Academy mine rescue team at MCC.

 

Danny has had much success training not only the MCC Mine Rescue Team but also training local mining company teams, MCC Spokesman Jay Parrent said in a press release. Along with responding to mine emergencies, Danny is well known as one of the best problem designers in the business and his skills as a trainer. He is credited as being a pioneer in the next generation of mine rescue people (college mining engineers) and his teams are always among the best.
