Twenty Virginia Mines, Nine Miners Recognized for Work Safety
May 17, 2019 - The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy (DMME) has awarded 20 coal mines for having no workplace injuries during 2018. Nine miners who haven't had an injury in decades were also recognized, according to a statement released today.
Virginia Mine Chief Randy Moore says work sites and miners who put safety first deserve the recognition.
Twenty-five coal mines will be recognized for remaining safe workplaces. Last year, 2.5 million employee hours were logged without a lost time accident in those mines.
The DMME says there have been no mining fatalities in Virginia since 2015.
