September 5, 2020 - Between analyzing fossil-fueled energy technologies and advanced thermal energy storage, NETL will have plenty of content and insight to share as a participant in the 2020 International Pittsburgh Coal Conference.

Running as a virtual conference from Tuesday, Sept. 8 through Friday, Sept. 11, the 37th International Pittsburgh Coal Conference will cover a myriad of topics such as gasification technologies, combustion technologies, clean coal and gas to fuels, carbon management, power plants, sustainability and the environment, coal ash management, rare earth elements, and many more.

NETL Director Brian Anderson is scheduled as one of the conference’s plenary speakers and will present, “Integrated Energy Systems of the Future.”

This presentation will dive into how NETL is rising to identify, design and develop the innovative, dispatchable fossil energy systems of the future that are critical to maintaining energy resiliency, reliability, stability, security, and affordability to ensure U.S. global competitiveness. This builds on NETL’s expertise in advanced computer modeling and analysis, as well as the Lab’s proficiency in developing key enabling technologies such as advanced alloys, innovative approaches for carbon capture and energy conversion to create an integrated capability to support the development of the fossil energy systems of the future.

“I look forward to again speaking at the Pittsburgh Coal Conference. Year after year, this conference presents a splendid opportunity to showcase NETL’s capabilities to the research community and the wider energy sector,” Anderson said. “NETL is developing the energy system of the future at our facilities and in the field with our industry partners, and NETL’s scientists, engineers and support staff have a lot to be proud of. NETL Chief Research Officer Randall W. Gentry is also scheduled as a plenary speaker and will present, “2020: A Perspective on the Horizon Through an Innovation Lens.”

Launched by the University of Pittsburgh following the oil embargo in 1973, the International Pittsburgh Coal Conference is the premier annual event devoted to all aspects of coal, energy and the environment. While this year’s event has been switched from an in-person gathering to a virtual format, the content originally scheduled remains unchanged.
