September 6, 2020 - As coal-fired power plants remain a dominant source of electricity worldwide, particularly for emerging economies, it is imperative to maximise the deployment of high-efficiency, low emissions (HELE) coal technologies over the coming decades. More efficient power cycles and upgrading technologies are available to reduce the CO2 emissions of new and existing plants, while state-of-the-art pollutant controls can minimise the impact on local air quality. Uptake of some HELE technologies is on course with targets set by the last technology roadmap in 2012, but there is an urgent need to build on this progress and ensure that planned coal fleet expansion employs the best available technologies. This webinar will review the status of key HELE technologies, highlight trends in their deployment over the past decade, and examine the factors behind these trends through country case studies. Based on this, it will present a roadmap for future technology development and key policy actions to accelerate HELE deployment.
