January 11, 2022 - With a new year comes a new exhibit! The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum completed installation on a new exhibit focused on the essential efforts of mine site reclamation. This exhibit explains different methods of reclamation, its importance to the environment, and the benefits of restoring the environment after mining is completed.

The exhibit features tangible tools needed for reclamation, a school bell from the mining town of Gilman, CO, and several other objects. Funds to help make this exhibit possible were contributed by Newmont Corporation and Freeport-McMoRan.

A main goal of this exhibit is to show the public how mining corporations are doing their part to better the environment after mining occurs. This exhibit will shed light on the essentialness of reclamation and even allow guests to take home some reclamation seeds of their own. The exhibit will be open to the public starting Friday, January 14th. 

Mine site reclamation is the process of returning mined lands back to beneficial use. This topic is essential to highlight because of the often controversial viewpoints regarding mining and the impacts on the environment. 

The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, located in the historically significant mining town of Leadville, CO, is a monument to the men and women who pioneered the discovery, development, and processing of our nation's natural resources. Known as the "Premier Showcase of American Mining," the nonprofit museum houses 25,000 square feet of interactive and informative exhibits telling the story of mining, its people, and its importance to the American public.
