August 3, 2022 - Last week, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D - WV) announced that he and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D - NY) had come to an agreement on passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. Experts say that the bill, which aims to cut carbon emissions by 40% in less than ten years, will raise taxes on millions of Americans and American job creators. The new 15% "corporate minimum tax" included in the bill would affect the coal industry more than any other industry in the country.
In response, the MCPA drafted and delivered a letter on Tuesday, August 2nd, urging Senator Manchin and Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R - WV) to reject the legislation. Both letters can be viewed below.
