| Site and Technology Selection Studies |
This presentation is a part of the SME Tailings Webinar Series and provides an overview of the typical processes and methods that are used to at the planning stages of a tailings storage facility for site selection, including selection of appropriate tailings management technologies that may be suited for each potential site. The presentation is based on the Principle 3 of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) (GTR 2020) which states, “Use all elements of the knowledge base – social, environmental, local economic, and technical – to inform decisions throughout the tailings facility life cycle, including closure.”

| Is Your Brain Keeping You From Recognizing Hazards? |
| Hazard recognition research shows that workers only identify about 45% of hazards in their workplaces, primarily due to how our brains process information, as well as not using our tools to slow our pre-job processes. Of the 55% of missed hazards, approximately 35% are missed because of cognitive biases and blind spots. In this presentation we will look at some of the cognitive biases and blind spots that could influence us into making an error. |
