September 13, 2023 - Due to the pandemic that began in 2019 the HMRA election cycle was disrupted. The MSHA Solicitor has determined that the election that was held in June 2023 was invalid. According to our bylaws, the election this year was supposed to be for Vice Presidents and the Executive Council and not for the President. In addition, a quorum of Vice Presidents was not present. Since we are in the process of re-writing our by-Laws, we will continue with the existing Executive Committee until the new by-laws are approved. The vote for President will occur next year at the National Mine Rescue Contest under the new by-laws. To get back on track, we decided, at the June meeting, that we would hold a National Council meeting at TRAM in October 2023. Members will be able to view proposed changes to the By-Laws at this time. The meeting at TRAM will take place at 4:30 p.m. on October 12 in room C-123 at the MSHA Academy.
The National Mine Rescue Contest will take place in August next year in Lexington, KY. Also, we plan to host a National Surface Mine Rescue Contest in 2025 in Reno, NV. More information about both events will be forthcoming.
