Exhibition Coal Mine in West Virginia Opens For 62nd Season

April 3, 2024 - West Virginia's Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine officially opens its doors and its mine carts for another season.

Opened in 1962, the coal mine tours show off Beckley and Raleigh County’s heritage. Leslie Baker, Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Beckley, welcomes everyone for their 62nd season.

“We hope that everybody comes down and enjoys it and if you’re local, you know, come back and get reintroduced to your culture and, you know, buy some stuff and some souvenirs, or bring your family when they come and visit. We’ll be open until November,” said Baker.

The coal mine features a new and improved gift shop this year, but old favorites like the fudge are still available, according to Baker.

The Coal Mine is open daily from 10 A.M. until 5 P.M.

Visitors taking a tour are advised to bring a jacket as the mine is a constant 58 degrees.
