Ed Leary, Respected Mining Equipment Sales Personality, Passes

 

 

April 25, 2024 - Respected mining equipment sales personality, Ed Leary, has passed. Edwin “Ed” Roger Leary, 86, of Indiana, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in his home. He was born in Rivesville, W.Va., on Dec. 15, 1937, to Henry and Fay (Smith) Leary.

“Ed was highly respected in the mining industry and never failed to represent both his company and himself in the most professional manner,” said retired long-time Sales Manager of Long-Airdox Company, Calvin Kidd. “He was highly dependable and his customers always realized they were in excellent hands. Ed will be sadly missed.”

 

 

 

Graduating from Clay-Battelle High School in West Virginia. Ed worked for Long-Airdox, one of the early leading mining machinery manufacturers, as a salesman for coal equipment until his first retirement at the age of 70. He then returned to the workforce with Conveyor Specialties until his final retirement in 2017.

His hobbies were fishing, watching football, especially his beloved West Virginia Mountaineers, road trips and golfing. Ed’s passion for golf allowed him to host an annual Hillbilly Open golf tournament, as well as taking him around the world playing esteemed courses such as St. Andrews in Scotland. Ed especially enjoyed his time spent with his family at family reunions.

Ed is survived by his wife, Ellen Kay (Rice) Leary, of Indiana; children Tara (Jim) Clendenen, of Indiana; Michael Leary, of Columbus, Ohio; Sonya (John) Maskrey, of Blairsville; Lisa (George) Dunmire, of Blairsville; Kelly Smith, of Derry; and Jodi (Michael) Leary, of Blairsville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry “Hank” (Myrtle) Leary, of Ohio; stepchildren Kevin (JoAnn) Wilt, of Colorado; Mitzi (Steven) Mitchell, of Colorado; Doug (Taira) Fedinick, of Pittsburgh; and Chad Fednick, of Pittsburgh; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his grandson, John Maskrey Jr.; brothers Donald and Gary Leary; and a sister, Karol Thorne. Friends were received by the family on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Services were private.
