April 4, 2025 - Below is a message from A Message From Tala Goudarzi - Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management :

I am honored to serve as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) for the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) as we work to meet President Trump’s mission to restore American energy leadership. With the support of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), FECM is positioned to pave the way for a new era in American energy, and progress is already underway.

On February 14, 2025, Secretary Wright issued the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export authorization for non-free trade agreement countries since lift on the previous administration’s freeze. Since then, we have removed barriers for the use of LNG as marine fuel to power vessels and issued permit extensions for proposed projects in Louisiana and Texas and approved a second export authorization for a proposed project in Louisiana, with more to come. The demand for natural gas is expected to continue rising across the globe, and these are crucial first steps to meeting that demand and securing American energy dominance.

FECM and NETL have a key role in meeting President Trump’s ambitious goals, and last month I had the opportunity to share those goals and FECM’s role with our partners in industry during CERAWeek in Houston.

I couldn’t be more excited to bring my experience in energy policy, strategic communication, and stakeholder engagement to lead the way. I look forward to working with the talented FECM-NETL team in securing an abundant, affordable, and reliable energy future for the United States.

Sincerely,

Tala Goudarzi

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management
