April 13, 2025 - Bluefield State University’s mining engineering technology degree program is in its second year, and following Trump’s recently announced policy, reinforcing coal’s importance to America and they want you to enroll! The university says its program perfectly aligns with Trump’s new policies. It addresses the shortage of mining professionals and closes the gap of those needed in the workforce to expand coal production. There are only 15 accredited mining programs nationwide, with around 150 graduates each year, but the industry needs 500 graduates per year. Their curriculum included components on international standards and practices, which will aid students in expanding coal exports globally. Students will gain hands-on experience through partnerships with active mining operations, allowing students to gain real experience. If you wish to enroll for the program’s second class, you can go to the website here.
