Bluefield Coal and Mining Show Returns After Three Years

September 9, 2025 - The Bluefield Coal and Mining Show has returned after 3 years.

The grand event showcases coal and mining equipment and brings individuals from all over the country to the two Virginias.

The show has been going on for more than 50 years and is considered the biggest underground mining expo in the U.S.

The show not only plays a positive role in the coal and mining industry but also the local economy as millions of dollars is spent from visitors.

“It has a huge ripple effect on the economy here in the Mercer and Tazewell County regions because everybody here is staying in hotels, eating at restaurants, filling up with all the gas, and hitting the retail locations. So, it really addresses the mining industry that has really affected West Virginia for so many years and been the economic driver for our area,” said President and Ceo of Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginia’s, Jeff Disibbio.

The show happens biennially, but, due to COVID, this is the events first iteration since 2022.

Disibbio says some sales have already been completed despite the event having not yet started.

“Obviously our show is really geared around primarily buying and selling in the industry, so I can tell you as of right now, we’ve already had over $10 million in sales of mining equipment. That’s happened in the first two days, and we haven’t even opened the show yet” said Disibbio.

Various vendors will attend, spotlighting equipment from all over the world, including Austria

Vendors have found great results when attending the show and say they have made better profit at this show than any other expo

“Vendors tell us after the fact that they had more sales and did more business at our event than they do at a large event like the, the coal mining expo out in Las Vegas. So, as far as impact to the industry, I think we’re probably one of the top ones, if not the top one in our area. In the area or on the East coast for actually people doing business and selling coal mining equipment,” said Disibbio.

The theme this year for the show is focused on “connecting buyers and sellers” and will continue to provide a show where vendors can conduct business.

The event begins on Wednesday September 10th after the ribbing cutting around 9:45am.
