Bluefield Coal and Mining Show to Open Wednesday
September 9, 2025 - Coal operators and those in the mining industry in West Virginia, Virginia, and Kentucky will converge on Bluefield this week for the 25th Bi-Annual Bluefield Coal and Mining Show.
The event draws mine owners, operators, and equipment vendors from all over the world.
“They come to see what’s new and what’s innovative on safety and what’s new on the equipment. That way they can find out what is on hand that could enhance productivity at their mine. So yes, it’s viewed as a purchasing opportunity,” said Bob Ramsey, Chairman of the Event and owner of Peter’s Equipment.
It’s not only a much anticipated event for the coal industry, it’s also a huge opportunity for those who manufacture mining equipment. Companies from around the world will be on hand to show off their most recent models. Those will include cutting edge technology to improve coal production efficiency and at the same time improve safety for workers in the mines.

“We’ve got 150 vendors coming into town from across 12 states,” said Ramsey. “We have a miner which was shipped in from Europe and it’s one of the newest pieces of equipment on the market and they’re showcasing it at our show.”
The show comes at a time when the climate is not idea for the coal industry, but Ramsey said it’s always been a boom or bust industry and that hasn’t changed.
“The industry is truly a roller coaster and we are in a trough of the industry at the moment. But there still remains optimism because some of theses highs and lows happen pretty quick. There is some enthusiasm for the future,” he said.
The show runs through Friday at the Brushfork Armory in Mercer County.
