There’s a lot going on on the Hill this week. In the Senate, it’s reconciliation time, with some looking to include priorities on energy and the environment. Most say that’s unlikely with GOP leadership focused on getting funding for immigration and law enforcement agencies across the finish line as soon as possible. Also in the Senate, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will be in the hotseat this week as Congress continues to examine the administration's budget.
Over in the House, Natural Resources is voting on a range of mining-related bills including the "Protect Domestic Mining Act,” and the "Critical Minerals Supply Chain Resiliency Act.” Both bills are focused on streamlining the permitting process for minerals projects.
In dealmaking news, USA Rare Earth will acquire Serra Verde Group, which owns a rare-earth mine and processing plant in Brazil. The transaction, a cash-and-stock deal valued at about $2.8 billion, will strengthen the company’s mine-to-magnets supply chain.
