Mine Safety Agency Sends Revised Silica Rule to White House
May 6, 2026 - The nation’s regulator of mine safety sent a proposed rule on respirable silica to the White House, taking the initial public step in modifying a Biden-era rule.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration, part of the US Labor Department, indicated last November that it plans to engage in limited rulemaking to replace parts of a Biden-era regulation that would require mines to cut respirable silica levels in half.
The proposed rule is now under review by the Office of Management and Budget.
