Indiana Senator Attends Congressional Hearing on Coal Industry

 

 

May 14, 2026 - Indiana State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) attended the Committee on Education and Workforce meeting on May 8 to speak about the future of coal mining in America with Congressman and Chairman Tim Walberg and Congressman Mark Messmer.

The meeting discussed the importance of the coal mining industry, as well as how to help the industry grow and keep mines safe for workers. The committee also heard testimony from industry experts from nearby districts and across the country.


"Coal is an essential resource that we need to provide reliable, affordable energy in America," Tomes said. "It was great to see the members of the committee speak on the value of the industry and how we can improve it moving forward."
