Coal Memorial in Pennsylvania Announces Tile Purchase Deadline June 30
June 6, 2026 - The Coal Memorial Committee of the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc. announced the 2026 deadline for purchasing a memorial tile to honor individuals, groups, or other elements of the coal industry in the Punxsutawney area is June 30.
The 2026 memorial tiles will be installed on Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Coal Memorial Site, 404 W. Mahoning St., when a ceremony will be held to dedicate the new tiles and to honor the memory of those who worked in any aspect of the coal industry. Miners, railroaders, engineers, as well as those who worked in support activities in mine towns: schoolteachers, mine doctors, nurses, company store managers and staff, and in general anyone whose work helped to keep the mines working.

Forms for ordering a memorial tile may be obtained at the Lattimer House of the Punxsutawney Area Historical and Genealogical Society, which is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Forms may also be found on the society’s website: pxyhistory.org.
