June 17, 2026 - Academia will play a leading role at the World Mining Congress (WMC) 2026, the world's most important mining event, which will be held at the Lima Convention Center from June 24 to 26. Through a dedicated space called the Academic Pavilion, students, researchers, professors, and professionals will have the opportunity to explore educational offerings, research advancements, and training opportunities related to the development of modern mining.

This area will bring together 16 academic and specialized training institutions from different regions of Peru and abroad, reinforcing WMC 2026 as a meeting point between the global mining industry and knowledge generation.

Participating institutions include Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI), TECSUP, CETEMIN, and Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM), all based in Lima.

Universities from other regions of Peru will also be represented, including Universidad Nacional de Cajamarca, Universidad Nacional de Moquegua (UNAM), Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa (UNSA), Universidad Continental (Arequipa), Universidad Nacional de Juliaca, and Universidad Nacional de Trujillo.

International participation will be represented by the University of Alberta and Fleming College, both from Canada, as well as the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) from Chile, an institution recognized for its work in applied research and mining sustainability.

Specialized Courses with International Experts

As part of its commitment to advancing knowledge, WMC 2026 will also offer a program of specialized short courses on June 22 and 23, prior to the official opening of the congress. These training sessions will be delivered by renowned international experts and will address highly relevant topics for the industry, including artificial intelligence applied to mineral exploration and mining safety, risk management, and sustainability.

The courses, offered in intensive 4- and 8-hour formats, are designed for professionals, executives, researchers, and students seeking to update their knowledge and strengthen their skills in a global learning environment. Participants will receive a certificate issued by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) and will have access to networking opportunities with leading industry specialists.
