Caterpillar Expands Texas Workforce Initiative with New Manufacturing Training Investment

July 2, 2026 - Caterpillar is expanding its long-term workforce development efforts in Texas through a new commitment designed to strengthen the state's advanced manufacturing talent pipeline. The initiative represents another milestone in the company's five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce program.

The company plans to dedicate up to $5 million during the first phase of the Texas effort. The funding will support programs that help prepare both current workers and future job seekers for careers in advanced manufacturing and industrial technology.

According to Caterpillar, the investment is intended to improve access to workforce training, identify the technical skills employers will need in the years ahead, and create stronger connections between education programs and manufacturing careers.

"Caterpillar believes building a strong workforce starts with investing in people and helping them develop the skills needed to be successful," said Chief Human Resources Officer Christy Pambianchi. She noted that Texas plays a major role in U.S. manufacturing and innovation, making it an ideal location to expand workforce training for both today's positions and tomorrow's technology-driven careers.

Why Texas?

Texas was selected because of Caterpillar's significant presence throughout the state. The company employs more than 6,600 people in Texas, with operations ranging from its corporate headquarters in Irving to 17 facilities statewide. One of its largest locations is the 1.7-million-square-foot engine manufacturing plant in Seguin, where the announcement was made.

Company officials also pointed to Texas' strong manufacturing infrastructure, skilled workforce, and network of educational institutions as key advantages that could help create workforce training programs with the potential to serve as models for other states.

Areas of Focus

The initial investment will concentrate on several priorities, including:

  • Expanding access to training by reducing financial obstacles.

  • Identifying the skills needed for future manufacturing and industrial careers.

  • Building stronger pathways that connect students and job seekers with employment opportunities in advanced manufacturing.

To carry out the initiative, Caterpillar is partnering with organizations such as Texas State Technical College, the Manufacturing Institute, and regional partners including the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.

Texas becomes the second state to launch projects under Caterpillar's Building the Future Workforce Initiative, which is designed to strengthen the nation's manufacturing workforce through education, training, and industry partnerships.
