Newly Operational Met Coal Producer Clinch Reaches First Train, Seaborne Shipment Milestones

July 24, 2026 - SX-listed metallurgical coal producer Clinch Resources has sold its first 11 000 t train shipment of commercial-grade metallurgical coal, with its first seaborne vessel expected to ship 65 000 t of metallurgical coal early in September.

Clinch executive VP Robert Gaylor says reaching the first train shipment sold and nearing the company's first shipment on sea validates the operational strategy and quality of the Lanes Branch surface mine, in Wyoming.

Through a new CAT HW 300 Highwall Miner unit having been mobilised at the mine, the company is ramping up production to more than 40 000 t a month, which will increase further to 80 000 t a month by the end of the year.

Clinch is supplying coking coal to steel-based manufacturing facilities in the US and internationally.

Clinch started commercial metallurgical coal production at Lanes Branch in May this year, which placed the company among the world's high-quality coking coal producers.

Notably, metallurgical coal is among the 60 critical minerals being prioritised by the US.

Clinch has two permitted projects from its 54 000 acre ARI asset – Lanes Branch and Mine 8, which is a historical underground metallurgical coal producing mine.

The company also owns 39% of a mid-volume metallurgical coal producer, JJ Resources.
