Except one candidate – who just knocked off a sitting Congresswoman in her own primary – didn’t get the memo. She said the Green New Deal – the same one that promised to retrofit every building in America – is, in her words, “a floor now, not a ceiling.” Not a relic. Not a cautionary tale from 2019. There’s a bill sitting in Congress right now – 419 pages, introduced back in March – that would restore the wind and solar tax credits Trump’s tax law just repealed, force a nationwide transmission buildout to prop up so-called “renewable” energy, and claw back the executive branch’s power to fast-track gas plants.  As of this month it has 159 cosponsors and counting. One of its authors was refreshingly candid about why it exists. Asked directly, he said he thinks it’s best to “be prepared and opportunistic” – that you “have to be ready for when the stars align.” In other words, this isn’t a messaging bill. It’s a loaded gun sitting in a drawer, waiting for the right election result in November to pull the trigger. CFACT doesn’t take talking points at face value – that’s the whole difference between a think tank and a DO tank. We read the 419 pages so you don’t have to. We track the cosponsor list while it climbs. We were in the room at over 30 UN climate conferences hearing this exact playbook in its original language before it ever got focus-grouped into “affordability.” And unlike plenty of groups you’ve read about lately getting cozy with government money, CFACT has never taken a single dime of taxpayer funding.
