What $3 Billion in Federal Mining Support Means on the Ground

August 11, 2026 - In case you’re covering the Trump administration’s latest push to put more than $3 billion behind U.S. mining and mineral processing, wanted to offer a source who can speak to what it actually takes to translate that federal support into domestic production.

Jon Nix, CEO of Clinch Resources (TSX: CLCH), is a fourth-generation coal miner who has spent more than two decades building and scaling U.S. mining companies. He previously founded TSX-listed Xinergy Corp., where he served as CEO and Chairman, and before that founded and led Nasdaq-listed National Coal Corporation. Today, he is leading Clinch’s metallurgical coal operations in West Virginia, where the company recently transitioned its Lanes Branch operation from development into commercial production.

Given that background, Jon can offer an operator’s perspective on the administration’s push to rebuild domestic mineral supply chains — particularly what needs to happen on the ground for federal investment and policy support to translate into producing mines and reliable supply for U.S. industry.

His take:

“Federal investment can be an important catalyst, but ultimately mineral security is measured by what America can actually produce. That means getting mines into operation, building reliable domestic supply chains and making sure U.S. manufacturers have access to the raw materials they need to compete. The opportunity now is to turn this renewed focus on mining into durable production capacity here at home.”

Jon Nix, Active Resources’ founder, has proven executive leadership experience in the mining industry. Mr. Nix is a fourth-generation coal miner. Jon founded Xinergy Corp. (XRG) in 2008, a former Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) listed Central Appalachian metallurgical and thermal coal producer where he served as CEO and Chairman through May 2012. Prior to Xinergy Corp., Jon was the Founder, CEO and Chairman of Nasdaq listed National Coal Corporation (NCOC), from 2001, through 2005. Mr. Nix holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from The University of Tennessee.
