September 3, 2026 -The House passed H.R. 1501, the Protecting Domestic Mining Act of 2025, led by Rep. Jefferson Shreve (R-Ind.), to strengthen domestic mineral production by giving eligible mining projects access to a more streamlined and predictable federal permitting process.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Shreve released the following statements after House passage:

“America should never have to rely on foreign adversaries for the resources that power our economy and protect our country,” Chairwoman McClain said. “We have the resources here at home. It is time to get Washington out of the way and give American workers and businesses the certainty they need to build.”

“America has the resources. We have the workers. What we don’t need is years of government delay and uncertainty,” Rep. Shreve said. “My bill gives qualified mining projects a clear and accountable permitting process. That will strengthen American manufacturing, support American jobs and reduce our dependence on China.”

H.R. 1501 permanently adds mining to the sectors eligible for FAST-41 permitting coordination, which provides greater certainty for domestic projects while maintaining existing federal review requirements. It also prevents future administrations from arbitrarily narrowing that eligibility.
