September 17, 2026 - The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance (PCA) has announced the winners of its annual mine safety and reclamation awards, recognizing companies across the Commonwealth for outstanding safety performance and efforts to reclaim and restore coal mine lands.

The annual awards highlight two major priorities of Pennsylvania’s coal industry — protecting employees at active mining operations and returning mined land to productive use following mining.

Among this year’s honorees was Rosebud Mining Company, which received recognition through the Keystone Mine Safety Awards.

Rosebud’s Crooked Creek Mine received a 2026 Keystone Mine Safety Award in the Long Continuous Mine category. The Indiana County operation recorded a 0.00 nonfatal days-lost (NFDL) rate while accumulating more than 1.1 million employee man-hours.

The Keystone Mine Safety Awards recognize companies and mine operations with superior employee safety records. The awards consider nonfatal days-lost rates as well as the number of man-hours worked, providing recognition for operations that maintain strong safety performance while conducting significant levels of mining activity.

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) was also recognized during the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance’s Black Diamond Awards program, receiving the Small Field Service Provider Safety Award.

CEC said the recognition reflected the efforts of its field employees working at Mine Safety and Health Administration-regulated mine sites and their commitment to maintaining high safety standards while providing services to mining customers.

Pennsylvania state Reps. Jim Struzzi and Dallas Kephart participated in presentations honoring award recipients.

Struzzi said the recognition demonstrates the coal industry’s continuing emphasis on both worker safety and responsible environmental practices.

The PCA’s annual reclamation awards recognize mining companies for projects that restore previously mined areas and provide environmental improvements and productive post-mining land uses.

Reclamation has long been a major component of Pennsylvania’s mining program. Projects can include regrading disturbed land, establishing vegetation, improving drainage, addressing abandoned mine features and returning former mine properties to agricultural, recreational, wildlife or other productive uses.

The awards program provides an opportunity to recognize mine operators, contractors and service providers whose work goes beyond coal production itself, highlighting the safety practices and land restoration efforts taking place across Pennsylvania’s coal-producing regions.

The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance represents coal producers and businesses that provide goods and services to the coal industry throughout the Commonwealth.
