September 18, 2026 - At a time when Canada is focused on strengthening its economy, attracting investment and advancing major projects, leaders from across the coal sector are coming together to discuss the industry’s role in that future. From September 30 to October 2, the Coal Association of Canada will bring together industry experts, government representatives and community leaders at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia for its 2026 Annual Conference. This year’s conference theme, Canadian Coal: Empowering Communities, Strengthening Economies, will highlight the people, partnerships and opportunities helping shape the future of coal in Canada.

“Strong resource industries build strong communities,” says Robin Campbell, President of the Coal Association of Canada. “Across Canada, our industry supports well-paying jobs, local businesses, organizations and Indigenous partnerships while producing materials essential to modern life. This conference is an excellent opportunity to strengthen those connections and look at how responsible coal development can continue creating lasting benefits for Canadians.”

The conference will examine the issues and opportunities shaping Canada’s coal industry, including global markets, investment and competitiveness, responsible development, regulatory and policy issues, innovation, Indigenous and community partnerships, transportation and Canada’s position in global coal markets. Delegates will also hear directly from Canadian producers and developers about current projects and the outlook for the sector.

“Canada is having an important conversation about economic security, competitiveness and the responsible development of our natural resources,” says Campbell. “Coal belongs in that conversation. We have high-quality supply, skilled workers, strong communities and rigorous environmental and regulatory standards. These are Canadian advantages we can build on to attract investment, create jobs and strengthen our economy.”

The Coal Association of Canada is pleased to be joined by coal industry executive Ryan R. Staschuk who will moderate this year’s conference, guiding important discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing Canada’s coal sector. With 21 presenters, this year’s conference will offer a range of perspectives, including keynote addresses by entrepreneur and philanthropist, W. Brett Wilson, and Lisa Sygutek, Publisher and Editor of the Crowsnest Pass Herald.

General sessions on Thursday and Friday will cover a range of topics including Canadian and international coal markets, industry challenges and regulatory realities, transportation, freight and logistics and updates from Canadian coal producers and developers.

This year’s program will also recognize outstanding contributions in the sector at the annual Awards Reception, celebrating individuals and organizations who exemplify dedication and leadership in the Canadian coal industry.
