America’s Power Statement on Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act

September 30, 2026 - Today, the “Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act” was introduced in the U.S. Senate. The legislation is intended to reform the federal environmental review and permitting process. Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO of America’s Power, released the following statement:

“For too long, uncertainty has hampered investment in America’s coal fleet and its supply chain. We support legislation that will improve the prospects for the more than 170 coal-fired generating units across 37 states to continue providing affordable, reliable, dispatchable, and energy-secure electricity around the clock. Yet never-ending litigation, red tape, and regulatory uncertainty continue to undermine U.S. competitiveness, energy security, and our nation’s electric grid. Ultimately, these problems harm consumers who need affordable energy.”

Michelle Bloodworth

America’s Power applauds the Trump administration, Senators Capito (R-W.Va.), Lee (R-Utah), Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Whitehouse (D-R.I.) for releasing the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act. We look forward to working with Congress to pass legislation that provides greater certainty for the nation’s coal fleet and its supply chain.

America’s Power is a partnership of industries involved in producing electricity from coal.
