Former Indiana Coal-Mine Land Secures $350 Million for Solar Development

October 7, 2026 - Zelestra is a renewable energy company that develops, builds and operates power projects, including solar, wind and battery storage. It supplies electricity to utilities and large businesses, helping meet growing energy demand and customers’ clean-energy goals.

The company has obtained $350 million in financing to complete a solar project on reclaimed coal-mining land in Gibson County, Indiana.

The 203-MW Reclamation Solar project is under construction, with commercial operation expected by the end of 2027. Meta has agreed to purchase its electricity under a long-term contract to support the company’s operations and growing power needs.

CIBC, BBVA and Société Générale arranged the financing package. The funding brings Zelestra’s U.S. project financing for 2026 to $1.14 billion, supporting more than 800 MW of utility-scale solar projects currently being built nationwide.

Reclamation Solar gives former mining property in southwestern Indiana a new role in electricity production. Plans for the site also include soil restoration, native vegetation and measures to support local biodiversity.

Construction is expected to provide approximately 200 local jobs during its busiest period.

For coal communities, the project offers an example of how reclaimed mining land can attract investment and support new energy development. The financing represents a milestone in completing the facility, which is not yet producing electricity.

Zelestra’s U.S. expansion is responding to increasing electricity demand from data centers, industrial customers and other large businesses. Its domestic development pipeline totals approximately 16 GW across key markets.
