CORE’s Leer South Settlement Supports Coal Operations and Diversification

October 17, 2026 - CORE Natural Resources’ second-quarter 2026 results included a $155 million insurance settlement related to its Leer South mine, strengthening the company’s financial position as it works to improve coal operations and develop additional uses for coal-derived materials.

The settlement provides a one-time boost to earnings and greater financial flexibility for shareholder distributions and investments. It should be considered separately from the company’s ongoing mine profitability and cash generation.

Performance at Leer South and Itmann remains important to CORE’s outlook. Coal demand, export conditions and selling prices will also influence future results.

Alongside its mining business, CORE is pursuing rare earth extraction projects and a partnership with Northrop Grumman. These efforts could help diversify revenue, although their longer-term contribution depends on successful development and execution.
