Volvo Group to Launch Dedicated Mining Business in 2027
October 20, 2026 - Volvo Group is establishing a dedicated mining business to bring its trucks, construction equipment, and autonomous solutions under a single integrated structure, as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the global mining industry.
The new entity, Volvo Mining, will launch on January 1, 2027, and operate within Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE). It will focus on mining companies and contractors, with an initial presence in Sweden, Norway and Finland before expanding into additional markets.
The business will manage product and service portfolio development for the group’s global mining segment, coordinate research projects across the group and operate with dedicated financial resources.
Focus on integrated mining solutions
Volvo Group said the new structure would help mining customers improve productivity, safety and operational resilience by combining capabilities across its businesses.
Mining operations typically require multiple machines and vehicles for excavation, loading, hauling and transportation, often in demanding and remote locations. Volvo Mining aims to provide integrated solutions as the sector focuses on productivity improvements, emissions reduction and safety.
“Mining has been an important part of the Volvo Group for decades, but the industry's growing significance calls for an even greater level of focus,” said Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE.
He said the new entity would combine expertise from across the group to improve customer value in collaboration with retail partners.
Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm said the dedicated organisation would help the group develop a comprehensive product and services portfolio for mining customers. Meanwhile, Volvo Autonomous Solutions President Nils Jaeger highlighted the potential to combine autonomous technology with the group’s wider equipment portfolio and customer relationships.
Per-Erik Lindström to lead
Per-Erik Lindström, currently senior vice president of Volvo Trucks International, has been appointed head of Volvo Mining, effective January 1, 2027.
Lindström said the business would work with customers and partners to improve productivity and safety while addressing the mining industry’s growing sustainability requirements.
Volvo Group said the initial focus would be on the Nordic region, with a phased expansion into other markets planned. It did not specify a timeline for the wider rollout.
