Yesterday was the start of Colorado Gives Day. It’s also the
start of something special for us. In 2027, the National
Mining Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates 50 years
since our founding and 40 years in our historic home
here in Leadville.
For nearly half a century, we’ve been telling one story: if it
isn’t grown, it has to be mined. The phone in your hand, the
bridge you drove across this morning, and the energy that
heats your home all started underground. We exist to make
sure the world understands that.
As we head into this milestone year, your gift will help us:
- Honor the people who built our modern world
- by preserving and sharing the stories of the 257
- inductees in the National Mining Hall of Fame
- Protect irreplaceable history through collections
- preservation and the stabilization of the Matchless
- Mine Historic Site, including work to make it
- accessible to visitors of all abilities
- Spark curiosity in the next generation by keeping
- our educational tours discounted or free for
- elementary through high school students
This year alone, more than 2,000 students have visited the
museum, thanks to the generosity of donors and sponsors
like you!
Many people don’t realize that although the museum holds
a Federal Charter, we receive no regular federal funding.
Admissions, memberships, gift shop sales, grants, and donors
like you keep our doors open.
Make your gift go further. From now until December 8th,
new recurring donations made through Colorado Gives are
matched by the Colorado Gives Foundation, up to $100 per
donation, while matching funds last. A monthly gift of any
size made now gets matched and supports the museum all
year long.
