November 3, 2026 - The following are critical program deadlines and timelines for Maryland's Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program:   November 15, 2026: Deadline for employers to submit a Declaration of Intent (DOI) along with a Proof of Private Plan Consultation if opting out of the state plan for a private plan.   December 2026: Employers intending to withhold employee contributions must provide written notice to employees at least one pay period before deductions start.   January 1, 2027: Payroll deductions and employer contributions begin across Maryland (set at a total rate of 0.9% of covered wages, split evenly at 0.45% each between employer and employee, though small employers with under 15 employees are exempt from the employer share).   April 2027: First contribution remittance due to the state for participating employers.   July 1, 2027: Deadline for employers to provide official notice to employees regarding FAMLI leave and benefits.   October 1, 2027: Deadline to submit a formal private plan application (if a DOI was previously filed).   January 3, 2028: Employees can begin taking up to 12 weeks of paid, job-protected FAMLI leave (capped at up to $1,000 per week)   Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions at 423-764-4127 or at sesco@sescomgt.com
