June 12, 2015 - NMA’s mine safety program, CORESafety, will receive the International Safety Quality Environment Management (ISQEM) Association’s “Safety Management Award 2015” for its active support and commitment to the mining industry. ISQEM is a global non-profit organization working to ensure that management safety, quality and environment are being raised and improved worldwide.
CORESafety is a management based approach that aims to reduce injury by 50 percent and eliminate fatalities in five years (50:0:5) CORESafety initiative is not a “top-down, one-size-fits-all” model typical of current federal regulations, but instead a flexible and organic initiative fit for operations of all sizes.
As part of an awareness campaign about CORESafety, an ad featuring NMA Chairman and President of Freeport-McMoRan Americas Red Conger can be found in this month’s edition of Mining Engineering (p. 21), the Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration’s official publication.
